Student spotlight – Jamie Myers

June 11, 2021

When first-generation college student Jamie Myers came to Montevallo as a freshman, she immediately felt the University’s welcoming and close-knit atmosphere.

“I know I belong at Montevallo because of the wonderful professors I’ve had and how extremely helpful all the staff are,” she said. “The relationships I’ve made here feel familial. At first, Montevallo was a home away from home. Now it is my home.”

Myers is majoring in art with a double concentration in drawing and painting, and will graduate in May 2022. She plans to build on her art foundation after earning her bachelor’s degree by pursuing an education master’s degree so she can teach art at the high school level

Myers has made it a priority to be involved on campus throughout her collegiate tenure, as she is a member of the Student Art Association, Student Secular Alliance and has participated in the annual Juried Foundation Art Show several times.

Her UM education and her active role on campus have built a strong foundation for her future, and she plans to utilize everything she’s learned at Montevallo to inspire a new generation of artists.

“UM has helped me grow so much as a person and an artist,” Myers said. “I’ve gained so many amazing life experiences that continue to inspire me and push me forward to meet my goals.”
