Storm shelters are available in the lower levels of the 3D Art Complex and the Center for the Arts. These shelters will open if Montevallo is placed under a tornado watch or tornado warning, and a UM ID is required for entry.

The basements of many UM buildings are also considered areas of refuge during business hours. If you cannot make it to a storm shelter or area of refuge, seek shelter in the lowest level of the nearest building, away from outside doors and windows.

The basements of the following buildings are considered to be “Areas of Refuge” that can be used if you are unable to reach a storm shelter:

Athletics

Some academic buildings may not be open outside normal business hours. Residence Halls with basements or designated Areas of Refuge can only be accessed by residents of those buildings using their student access cards.
