Commencement announcement

May 2, 2019

The forecast for Saturday’s Commencement ceremony is uncertain.  In an effort to keep Commencement on Flowerhill Lawn, we are postponing making the final decision until Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. The University will notify you if the ceremony moves into the McChesney Student Activity Center via social media and email.

What happens if it rains??? Should the weather become an issue for rehearsal at 4 p.m. tomorrow, you will also receive an email to report to the SAC rather than Flowerhill. If this occurs, Senior Day activities will also move to the SAC. Rehearsing in the SAC doesn’t necessarily mean that we will be in the SAC Saturday morning.

During rehearsal, we will distribute  seven tickets  to each graduate in case we ceremony is moved.  If you have more than seven guests, they will be able to view a live stream at Palmer Auditorium. If Palmer is needed, we will open the facility at 8 a.m.

FACULTY: If we move the ceremony to the McChesney Student Activity Center, you will not need to attend in order to allow more seating—department chairs will serve as representatives of the faculty.

We are willing to go forward on Flowerhill even if there is a slight drizzle—the determining factors will be lightning and ground conditions.
