November 15, 2019

On Oct. 10, the University of Montevallo celebrated its 123rd Founders’ Day and recognized deserving faculty, staff and alumni.

During the ceremony Dr. Jennifer Alexiou-Ray was awarded the 2019 Faculty Service Award for her dedication and commitment to the University community.

Since coming to the University in August 2010, Alexiou-Ray, an associate professor of instruction technology, has proven to be a valuable asset to the University’s College of Education and Human Development.

Countless times throughout her nine years at UM she has proven her dedication to both students and the CEHD.

“Dr. Alexiou-Ray is truly an exceptional, creative and inspired faculty member with a deep commitment to service,” said Dr. Courtney Bentley, CEHD dean.

Currently, Alexiou-Ray is serving as the principal investigator for the GEAR Up Jefferson County Grant.

Alexiou-Ray has served as president of UM’s Faculty Senate and has held various committee positions on UM’s Faculty Senate that have helped shape how UM has implemented new and advanced technology in classrooms across campus.

“How Dr. Alexiou-Ray has demonstrated exemplary service to the University through departmental, college, University, professional and community activities is truly exceptional,” said Bentley.

Her service to the discipline of teaching has been recognized by various different organizations outside the University as well. She has also previously been awarded the “Making IT Happen” award by the Alabama Leaders in Educational Technology.

“Her service commitments are seamlessly aligned with her commitments to advance programs in instructional leadership and technology as well as the global field of instructional and educational technologies as evidenced through her teaching and scholarship,” said Bentley.
