Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Online program

An ONLINE modality is now available for the Secondary Alternative Master’s program.

The Alternative Master’s Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program is for those who have a bachelor’s degree in a field outside of education and seek to teach students who are deaf or hard of hearing at the P-12 level (preschool-grade 12) and earn a master’s degree and Class A teaching certification. Students must be admitted unconditionally in this program.

The Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Alternative Master’s program is ofered both ONLINE and in person. An alternative master’s degree leads to advanced (Class A) teacher certifcation to teach students who are deaf or hard of hearing at the preschool through high school levels (grades P-12).

Admission Requirements

  • Online application at montevallo.edu/ apply.
  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2.75 GPA) or graduate degree (minimum 3.0 GPA) from a regionally accredited college/ university*.
  • Praxis II Elementary Education: Three Subject Bundle*.
  • Teaching Education Program interview.
  • Fingerprint/background clearance .

*Minimum GPA of 2.0 allowed with a corresponding higher Praxis II score.

Montevallo Educators’ Partnership

Candidates employed by eligible school systems can receive a scholarship of up to $110 per credit hour toward tuition for all program coursework.

Coursework overview

All coursework must be completed with a minimum overall GPA of 3.25. The edTPA assessment must be satisfactorily completed.
