University presents Forte Festival of Creativity

April 12, 2019

During April 18-20, the University of Montevallo campus will host a multitude of workshops and performances as part of the annual Forte Festival of Creativity.

The Forte Festival of Creativity celebrates creativity across disciplines as a collaboration between all four colleges at UM and the Montevallo Arts Council. The 2019 theme is Open Table. Guest presenters, UM student groups and faculty present innovative approaches and hands-on experiences related to the theme in this unique three-day celebration.

The festival will begin Thursday morning with an interactive puppet workshop that gives participants a hands-on experience with puppets. It will be followed by a presentation from creator and playwright Karow Wilson featuring puppetry and object theater.

Friday’s events kick off with a cookie and cupcake challenge where participants will battle to create tasty Montevallo-inspired confections. After awards are presented, the desserts will then be sold to raise money for the Student Emergency Fund.

The day will then feature interactive workshops which include drawing comics for beginners and creativity in coding, which will allow attendees to experiment with creating computer-generated art. Friday’s events will conclude with the Pattin Piano Fund Concert where Drew Spradlin will perform an original program including acoustic and electric keyboard sounds.

On Saturday, events will be focused in Orr Park continuing the celebration of local artists at Montevallo Arts Fest presented by the Montevallo Arts Council. Throughout the day, there will be more than 100 local and regional artists, live music, food vendors and activities for the entire family.

Throughout the festival, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy UM Theatre’s presentation of “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” the Musical April 17-20 at 7:30 p.m. Production contains adult content. Tickets are available at montevallotickets.universitytickets.com

Other activities during the festival will include highlights from “Ghost Quartet,” two gallery showcases by senior BFA students at The Gallery at Bloch Hall and the release of The Tower student literary and arts magazine.
